QUAKE - Hints, Tips and Secrets

Legal preamble

Quake is a trademark of id Software. All other trademarks acknowledged.
None of what follows is approved by id themselves, and if you use any of it and mess up your game, your computer or your life, that's YOUR problem, not mine.

Real preamble

What follows is intended as an aid to playing the game. The design of Quake is such that it is very easy to to add extra facilities by using the "QuakeC" compiler and the various level-editing utilities (available in the public domain) but I felt that further discussion of those utilities was outside the scope of this document (see section 6 for where else to look for further information, should you need it).

Please note that the "last updated" date given above is something of a misnomer: much of the information contained in these pages dates from 1997. If you are looking for information about later games (Q2, Q3 Arena), you are advised to visit one of the sites mentioned in section 6.

A note about "spoilers"

I have grouped all of the cheats and secrets in sections 3 and 4 below. If you don't want to see any of them, avoid the links marked with the [SPOILER] message.

Contents

  1. Additions to the user manual etc.
(Control keys, Files etc., Hardware issues, Multiplayer games)
  2. Playing tips
  3. Console mode commands (including cheat codes) [SPOILER]
  4. The secrets list! [SPOILER]
  5. Differences between the various Quake releases
  6. Where to go for further information about Quake

DOWNLOAD these hints as a single textfile.
